Your Career

As a Technical Program Manager, you will be expected to be versed in the technical domains and be able to engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary staff to conceive and design innovative products that will secure our digital life.

This role is focused on working amongst multiple teams to deliver functionality that those teams are responsible for. You will be the “glue” that holds teams together and maintains a bird’s eye view over what those teams are delivering and how those deliverables fit together. This involves two aspects, both equally important:

  • The “Technical” part of “TPM” requires identifying dependencies and technical risks that affect the various teams represented.

  • The “Program Manager” part of “TPM” involves scheduling, managing sprints, creating milestones, and reporting status.

The interplay of these two responsibilities means that the TPM not only coordinates schedules, but helps the teams execute against their schedules.

What should success look like at 30 days?

  • Good understanding of Palo Alto Networks development process

  • Know the who’s who in the teams that you interface with, drive consensus

  • Developed knowledge of building Program Management dashboards

  • Chair program meetings and sync ups with cross functional stakeholders ranging from technical leads to VPs/SVPs

  • Produce accurate meeting minutes via Confluence with follow up action items

  • Be able to generate well formulated Jira queries and translate them into Program Management dashboards

What should success look like at 90 days?

  • Participate in meetings and discussions and be able to accurately summarize discussion points and articulate trade-offs. You are expected to be more than a minute taker. We would like you to summarize the key points.

  • Offer solutions to problems – we solve complex problems

  • Be able to provide suggestions for process improvements. Of course, in order to do this effectively, you will have to have a good understanding of our current process (see What should success look like at 30 days bullet #1)

  • Ability to drive consensus and closures to issue. Properly highlight the next steps to drive closure to outstanding issues

  • Make suggestions for tools for improving efficiencies. Better still, if you are comfortable scripting, write your own tools/macros for improving efficiencies

Your Impact

  • Work with key stakeholders in product management, engineering and cross functional teams to define strategy and requirements

  • Lead cross-functional development on new technology from design through delivery

  • Work with onsite and remote teams to deliver supporting software and services in sync with launch timelines

  • Communicate regularly with senior management on status, risks and change control

  • Responsible for driving a wide range of development & infrastructure work-streams as part of any given technical initiative

  • Able to work closely with Technical Architects/Technical leaders and understand deep technical topics

Your Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with a technical discipline, or equivalent experience

  • Customer focus! Our goal is to release quality products.

  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in technical program/project management experience

  • Expert understanding of the software development lifecycle

  • Experience working with engineering teams on defining projects, collecting requirements, writing detailed functional and test specifications, coordinating efforts to scope, schedule, and deploy new features sets

  • Proven experience in project management and coordinating/driving release schedules

  • Executive presentation skills and demonstrated experience in running program meetings

  • Comfortable hosting senior level leaders (SVP/VP) and providing status/program updates

  • Hands on experience with JIRA, Confluence and other Atlassian products

  • Hands on experience with Agile and Waterfall

  • Very organized with strong project and/or program management experience with deep experience in cross-team coordination

Preferred Experience

  • Master’s degree or advanced technical degree

  • Creative leader with superior analytical abilities

  • Excellent technical, problem-solving and communication skills

  • Experience running bug scrubs

  • Ownership for driving progress and resolution of customer's critical escalations

  • Engage in critical feature requests to help address our customers’ needs with existing capabilities and/or future features in the roadmap

  • Effectively communicate critical issue status to all partners

  • Product development and Firewall/SaaS/PaaS architecture experience

  • Experience with project planning tool such as Microsoft Project and/or Smart Sheet

  • Experience with vulnerability management and secure DevOps

  • Knowledge of Public Cloud/Datacenter/Firewalls technical areas

  • Provide visibility and metrics of the current state of vulnerabilities to partners, as well as oversight and stakeholder accountability of SLAs

  • Detail oriented and results driven

  • A strong sense of urgency and bias for action

  • A real passion for helping customers and solving problems

  • Quick learner and self-starter with ability and desire to connect the dots

  • Identify systemic and pervasive issues related to products and/or processes and drive actions to prevent future problem
