Penn State Health and the Penn State Department of Neurosurgery seek an ABNS certified or eligible neurosurgeon with fellowship training in neurocritical care. The fellowship must be accredited by the Society of Neurological Surgeons' Committee on Advanced Subspeciality Training (CAST) or its equivalent.

This is an academic practice position specializing in neurocritical care. It is expected that approximately 25% of the faculty member's clinical activity will be as a neurointensivist with 75% of clinical activity being devoted to a general and/or subspecialty operative neurosurgery practice.

The successful candidate is expected to excel in patient care, research and education. A track record of academic productivity, teaching skills and clinical excellence is required. The Department of Neurosurgery is highly ranked in NIH funding and numerous basic and clinical research opportunities exist. The Neurocritical Care Unit at Penn State Hershey Medical Center is directed by a neurosurgeon. The successful candidate will share neurocritical care responsibilities on a regular basis with four other faculty members - including two other neurosurgeon neurointensivists in the Penn State Department of Neurosurgery. He or she will serve as a mentor for residents in the Penn State Neurosurgery residency program and fellows in the Penn State CAST accredited neurocritical care fellowship.

The Penn State Department of Neurosurgery is a component of Penn State Health, a multidisciplinary medical group offering services throughout Central Pennsylvania. This practice will be at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, the academic flagship hospital of Penn State Health. Academic rank and compensation will be commensurate with experience.
