P ediatric Intensive Care

Our 18 bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) has received the highest rating for care, placing us among the best in the world! Patients needing your attention in our PICU range from newborns to 18 years of age. Our wide variety of patient types and advanced therapies include trauma, pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, ECMO, oscillator, nitric oxide therapy and research.

Penn State Children’s Hospital was designated a Level 1 Children’s Surgery Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) - the highest level awarded. The hospital is one of just eight in the nation - and the only one in Pennsylvania - to achieve this designation through the ACS Children’s Surgery Verification Program .

This three-year accreditation means that we met essential criteria for staffing, training and facility infrastructure, as well as protocols for care, ensuring that the Children’s Hospital is able to handle the specific needs of young patients. This includes the presence of children’s surgical and medical specialists, pediatric anesthesiologists and pediatric emergency physicians, all of whom are prepared to handle the specific needs of children. Such hospitals also must provide surgical care across multiple specialties, including procedures for complex diseases and major congenital anomalies.

Registered Nurse with license to practice professional nursing in the state of Pennsylvania required OR Registered Nurse from another state with a Temporary PA Practice Permit required.

6 months RN experience required.

Able to lift/carry 0-10 lbs frequently; 11-50 lbs occasionally.

Able to push/pull 0-20 lbs frequently; 21-75 lbs occasionally.

Able to climb occasionally; reach constantly.

Able to use hand for simple/firm grasping.
