Principal Land Resources Specialist

Colorado Springs Utilities is seeking an experienced Land Resources professional to facilitate and coordinate, acquisition of new assets, disposal of access assets, and efficiently manage the use of Utilities enterprise real property interests. In this role, you will be responsible for the oversight of land acquisition, management, and disposition activities within Utilities for projects and programs. In this job, you will be responsible for leading and acting as the subject matter expert through a variety of exciting opportunities such as:

  • Playing a key strategic role in supporting project teams in areas such as Water, Waste Water, Gas, and Electrical major projects

  • Preparing and executing the long-term strategic plan for acquisition and disposition of real property interests that support the goals of the four services

  • Leading negotiations for all Colorado Springs Utilities property acquisition and disposal transactions

  • Acting as the primary liaison between Colorado Springs Utilities and the City of Colorado Springs as well as internal and external groups

  • The building, maintaining and enhancing relationships with local, state and federal agencies

  • Assist program and project teams with conservation easements, land use covenants, leasing-fallowing, or wetland banking

  • Manage activities related to property, leases, and licenses held by Utilities

  • Assist with Utilities infrastructure associated with land use designations including current and proposed roadless areas, wilderness areas, special management areas, etc.

What will it take to be successful? This position provides you the opportunity to work with various leaders across the organization and local community as you demonstrate your expert knowledge of land resources. The ideal candidate will have previous experience with acquisition and disposal of interests in real property in the public or utility sector(s) and a Master’s or Legal Degree with an emphasis in real property or municipal law.
